Multiple shots fired on Broadway

Tuesday, November 15, 2011
By Jeremy Bressman

We’ve received multiple reports of shots being fired last night on the 6100 block of North Broadway, near the Pumping Company bar.  The shootings occured around 11:30pm, and it does not appear that anyone was hurt.  Police were quick to respond, and one reader tells us that a squad car had pulled over a grey Oldsmobile just north of where the shootings occured. We will update this post as more details become available.

Concerned residents are encouraged to attend the CAPS meeting for Beat #2433  this Thursday (11/17) at 7pm in the 24th District station (6464 N. Clark).

I heard this “gunfight at the OK Corral” at about 11:25. There were too many shots to count but am thinking it was like 12 or so. I grabbed my phone, dialing 911 as I went out on our balcony to see if I could find out where it occurred. I saw many many police vehicles a little north of Glenlake.  Since 05/27/11, this will be the  sixth shooting/shots fired in this area. How very sad that many of us who never heard the sound of gunfire before are now able to recognize those sounds. Also very sad is the fact that we either hear this ourselves or read about it on sites like this one and several others rather then hear about it from the Alderman’s office. What is being done to address these gunfights? Why isn’t communication sent out to the residents of this ward WHEN it happens? Seems easy enough to me to send out an “alert” newsletter the next day or so. I’m also sad, that after spending much of my adult life in Chicago, I now know what gunshots sound like.
Thanks to Jeremy for keeping us informed, thanks to the CPD for a super fast response and thanks to all who pick up the phone. Stay safe and alert my neighbors.

“What is being done to address these gunfights?”

Good chance you’ll get an answer if you attend the CAPS meeting this Thursday (see details above).

I think you’re right that nobody was injured as a result of these shots, but my silver Honda Fit took a bullet. It was parked directly in front of the Pumping Company’s door. It took me almost 2 hours to vacuum up the glass explosion. I think I’m going to leave the slug lodged in the door for street cred.

If you leave the bullet lodged in your door it might not be for street cred., it could mean to others that you are part of a gang that your car would get shot up again.  I would remove it if I were you, just for safety’s sake, and don’t park near the Pumping Station any more.

Plus – “Street Cred” and “Honda Fit” should never be included in the same paragraph…
