Johnny Brown Bag opens on Clark

A new Italian eatery, Johnny Brown Bag, quietly opened up in Andersonville at 5406 N Clark Street recently. Opened by John and Jennifer Scalzo, the same owners of the Via Carducci restaurants in Lincoln Park and Bucktown, Johnny Brown Bag was the idea of wife Jennifer. The couple has always wanted to have a location in Andersonville, but according to their website the idea came about when Jennifer found a photo of her husband when he was a young boy in Calabria, Italy. He was sitting at his classroom desk in 4th grade with his brown bag lunch. Jen & “Johnny” realized that the brown bag is everywhere and about everyday life.

The restaurant offers carry-out, delivery or you can dine as the spot features 16 seats as well as a small outdoor area. The facade of the restaurant opens up completely to Clark Street so patrons can enjoy the weather on warmer days. The menu is robust and features everything from small plates to salads to paninis to pastas and pizzas. The owners hope to eventually serve beer and wine also.

We look forward to dining at Johnny Brown Bag soon, and will be sure to write a restaurant review when we do to share our experience. In the interim, if you’ve checked it out, whether dine in or carry-out, let us know what you thought in the comments.
