Be The First To Know

Big Weekend In Our Community, Fall Art Fair and Edgewater 5K Run/Walk

This weekend is an incredible weekend to be in Edgewater. After months of planning, we anticipate two big events in the neighborhood.

FB-event-bannerFirst, the Fall Arts Fair gets the weekend off right this Saturday and Sunday. Celebrating their second year, Edgewater Artists in Motion are anticipating a great turn out. Located on Granville between Broadway and Kenmore, the event takes place both days 11am-6pm. Admission is $5 with proceeds going to fund future cultural initiatives in the community. Alderman Harry Osterman’s office released an email today saying, “The Arts continue to grow and thrive in the 48th Ward, from new theater companies choosing to locate here to new public art projects coming to life throughout the community. The Edgewater Fall Art Fair is another example of Edgewater being a vibrant home and destination for the Arts.” The fair will include:

  • A multicultural lineup of 100 Chicago artists working in painting, photography, illustration, hand-made jewelry, pottery, mixed media, glass and mask-making.
  • 3 live music stages: jazz, country, Flamenco, reggae, Irish and classical music, folk songs, cabaret and choral singing (including performances by The Edgewater Singers, The Rickover Naval Academy Jazz Ensemble and Chicago music legends like Diane Ellis & The Jazzy Ladies and Stann Champion’s Roots Rock Society).
  • Couture Fashion Show with ready-to-wear collections by Chicago designers, Ann Everett and Michael White
  • Children’s Activity Corner, featuring storytelling with Lil’ Buds, finger painting, sidewalk chalk drawing and art demos by Art Therapy Connection, balloon artistry, puppet shows and more.
  • Performing Arts Stage, with several theatre and dance groups taking the audience “behind the scenes” as they work on their next piece live – to show the wonders of the creative process, which we rarely get to see.
  • Pet Parade & Costume Contest with a Let’s Go To The Movies theme.
  • Young Artists’ Gallery with artworks by students of Edgewater schools: Senn High School, Peirce School of International Studies, Swift, Hayt Elementary School, and Sacred Heart. Plus: The Chicago Waldorf School (Rogers Park), The Roycemore School (Evanston) and William H. Ray Elementary School (Hyde Park).
  • Children’s Music Talent Show, hosted by Steven Solomon: featuring performances by musically-talented elementary school aged kids.
  • Beer Garden, enjoy food, drinks and music in a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Special appearance by Miss Illinois 2014, Marisa Buchheit, who will sign autographs, take pictures and sing opera, pop, and originals in a vocal-piano duo with our local resident musician, Steven Solomon!

Pstcd6x4_Edge5K_6FrontSecond, the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce comes together with Alderman Harry Osterman, Star Events, and 11 local schools for this Sunday’s first annual Edgewater Back To School 5k Run/Walk. It is an event for the whole family, even the pooch can take part. The race starts 8 a.m. at Granville and Kenmore. The cost is $45/person; $135/family of four. For more information or to register, go to edgewater.org/5k. A portion of the money will go to the participant’s school of choice.
