Another Armed Carjacking In Edgewater Last Night

With incidents drastically on the rise throughout Chicago, carjacking has become the latest crime to surge in the area. Yet after police offered a game of attack this past weekend, it has been learned that another person fell victim last night in Edgewater.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, a 29-year-old man was approached by two men on the 1500 block of W. Granville Ave. while near his car. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and demanded the keys to his vehicle.

Authorities say that the pair then jumped into the victim’s 2015 Subaru Crosstrek and sped away from the scene. They drove onto Lake Shore Drive and headed southbound.

There were no injuries reported and there is no one in custody at this time.

On Monday, EVB put out a story about a CPD plan of attack to combat the surge in vehicular hijackings. According to them, the best tip is to simply be aware of your surroundings in order to avoid armed confrontations.

CPD also said it will respond to carjackings like shootings or homicides. Their plan will implement measures including flash messages providing car make/plate info, quick review of LPR and POD cameras, and citywide notification via CW7. Some preventative actions mentioned by CPD include outreach to at-risk juveniles, keeping an eye on social media outlets, and increased patrols on prioritized routes.
