With Summer soon approaching, Andersonville Midsommarfest celebrates the beginning of the season like no other. In response to the COVID-19 crisis however, all the social merriment the fest brings will have to wait as social distancing has postponed the event until late Summer.

In an announcement by the fest’s organizers, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC), they made the decision due to restrictions of large gatherings in order to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus. Originally planned for June 12-14, 2020, Midsommarfest will move to August 21-23, 2020.

This year will be the 55th year for the festival which honors Andersonville’s Swedish roots and the summer solstice celebration of Midsommar. But with health concerns running high for the time being, the ACC is hoping that August will allow an ease in social distancing and a safer time to hold the event.

“Midsommarfest is a celebration of community,” said ACC Executive Director Sara Dinges, “and the Chamber’s priority this year is to keep our community safe and healthy.”

The ACC announcement also mentioned that the deadline for Midsommarfest vendor applications has been extended until July 3. Information on applications can be found at StarEvents.com. For more information and updates on the event itself, visit the Midsommarfest website.
