Andersonville Midsommarfest Canceled, But Fundraiser Will Still Provide A 16 Candles Fix

16 Candles To Perform Virtually

With Chicago Summer festivals in limbo due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the city finally confirmed last week that it will not be issuing special events permits until after Labor Day this year.

Originally planned for early June, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC) hoped to still hold the event and postponed it until the weekend of August 21-23. The city’s announcement however now means that many of Chicago’s favorite festivals will not occur in 2020 including Andersonville’s Midsommarfest.

like many organizations who hold such events, they rely on the profits obtained to help finance their efforts and programming throughout the year in order to create a vibrant community. The ACC is now finding itself in a financial struggle and are looking for ways to raise the lost funding.

So in response, the ACC announced that it will hold Andersonville at Home: A Midsommarfest Experience & Fundraiser on June 12 to bring the community together online and help raise critical funds to help fill the money gap. The event will air on Facebook Live starting with a pre-show at 6 p.m. and followed by the main event at 7 p.m. Guests can RSVP in advance via the Andersonville At Home Facebook event.

ACC has booked exciting entertainment for the evening including longtime Midsommarfest favorite 16 Candles and The Voice finalist Katie Kadan. There will also be special messages from 40th Ward Alderman Andre Vasquez and 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman.

“Of course, we are sad that we will not be able to share the street festival Midsommarfest experience with the community in person, but we hope folks will join us for the virtual event instead,” says ACC Events and Community Manager Laura Austin in a release. “Tune in to see some familiar faces and connect with the neighborhood through song and celebration.”

To compliment the event, the ACC will also conduct a raffle that will be given away one week after the Andersonville at Home event. Anyone who donates donate $10 or more to ACC now through June 21 will be entered to win. Higher donation amounts will result in additional entries. The raffle will feature amazing prizes including:

There is a wide range of entertainment, programming and collaborations to help fund the ACC through the year. If you are unable to watch the event live, the taped broadcast will be posted to ACC’s YouTube channel the day after. Go to the Andersonville at Home: A Midsommarfest Experience & Fundraiser for full information.

Donations for the event will be collected through Venmo to the ACC at username @AvilleChamber, by phone at 773-728-2995, or by mailed check to ACC at 5217 N Clark, #3 Chicago, IL 60640. While not tax-deductible, all donors will be supplied with a written receipt and be added to the donors page on the Anderosnville at Home website.
