Andersonville Marijuana Dispensary Close To Opening

Dispensary33-1Bright lime green signs in the window at 5001 N. Clark are announcing a fall 2015 opening of Dispensary 33, a medical marijuana dispensary to serve the north side communities. However, its approval is not yet quite official.

According to a current timeline sent in mid-July 2015, The Cannabis Group (owners of the dispensary) were still waiting on final approval from both the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

They are also finalizing building permits from the City of Chicago. Construction could commence any day now.

When The Cannabis Group first made public its desire to turn the old Pie Hole pizza joint into a dispensary, there seemed to be a lot of mixed reactions to the plans. However, they were organized in their planning and breezed through public meetings with support. Since then, the Winona Foster Carmen Winnemac (WFCW) block club and the North Uptown Neighbors Association (NUNA ) block club gave them the green light. Those thumbs-ups were soon followed by additional approvals from both the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and Business Partners — the Chamber For Uptown.

The proposed Dispensary 33 lies in Alderman Ameya Pawar’s 47th Ward. In a letter to the Chicago City Council, the Alderman wrote, “I support the special use for the establishment of a medical cannabis dispensary in a C1-2 Zoning District for the property located at 5001-03 N. Clark Street in the 47th Ward.” In the letter he also cited that it was approved by all the necessary 47th Ward community groups.
