A major Chicago Police Department sting was conducted yesterday in the 48th Ward. The mission was directed at narcotics sales in the area and resulted in the arrest of 16 people and four local businesses either cited or shut down.

According to a release sent out by Alderman Harry Osterman today, the operation took place along the Argyle Street area. Many of the individuals arrested have gang affiliations and all were cited for selling narcotics within 1000 feet of Goudy and McCutcheon Schools.

Along with the arrests, four businesses were either cited or shut down. Though there were no mention of which storefronts were effected, a photo of the Quick Stop store at 5000 N. Sheridan was included in the release that was sent out. That image showed a police officer pointing to a large, orange sticker on the business’ door that read, “NOTICE- OFF LIMITS, DO NOT ENTER. City Of Chicago, Department of Buildings.”

Also in the release, the Alderman said,”This police operation is an important step to improving the safety on and around Argyle street.  A safe Argyle area is important for the entire community.”

The Alderman continued by thanking the ‘vigilant residents’, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, Commander Sean Loughran of the 20th District, Commander Thomas Waldera from Narcotics, Commander Ken Angarone from the Vice Division and to ‘the Chicago Police officers on the street who have helped make this safety initiative a success.’

There will be additional resources put into the area over the next several weeks by the 20th District. Residents are urged to call 911 to report crimes or reach out to the 20th Police District with any questions or comments.  They can be reached at caps.020district@chicagopolice.org or 312-742-8770.

There will be a positive loitering event on Wednesday, April 27 on Argyle and Kenmore at 6 p.m. and on Friday, April 29 on Argyle and Broadway at 6 p.m.
