Wooly Mammoth Starts GoFundMe Page To Aid Residents Displaced By Saturday’s Tragic Fire

A tragic fire last Saturday that broke out in a Ravenswood apartment building was so intense that over 100 fire fighters were called to the scene. Additional flare-ups ignited through the morning hours causing responders to make three trips back to put out flames.

The blaze, which broke out at 1 a.m. Saturday morning, tore through the back porches of a three story apartment building on the 5100 block of N. Paulina and quickly spread to the roof. The fire was so hot that a recently renovated home next door on Winona also caught fire, destroying it as well.

Though no one was injured in the fire, five-six families were displaced by the incident. The fire is still under investigation.

In order to help those people who lost their homes, a GoFundMe campaign has been started to help. The page, which was created two days ago, has already reached their goal of $2000 and the donations will likely exceed that.

The funding campaign was started by Woolly Mammoth Antiques & Oddities, 1513 W. Foster Ave. so that residents could help support those affected by the fire.

“Andersonville is a great community in Chicago-let’s band together and help our neighbors,” said campaign creator Skye Rust. “Help our neighbors get back on their feet, and lets help them get re-established in our neighborhood.”

Alderman Patrick O’Connor also is helping those displaced by accepting gift cards to any major department or grocery store. You can drop them of or mail them to the  40th Ward Service Office at 5850 N. Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60659.

The alderman also asks area landlords to let him know of any available units as the fire victims will need rental housing soon.
