Two Friends Charged In Edgewater Burglaries Get Into Weekend Dispute That Leaves One Shot

Two friends who were recently released on bail after two Edgewater burglaries this summer got into a dispute over the weekend which resulted in a shooting that left one of the men with a bullet wound to his foot.

The incident occurred on Friday morning around 12:30 a.m. while the 39-year-old victim was walking on the 1000 block of W. Bryn Mawr. The two men got into an argument which culminated with three shots being fired.

The victim entered Weiss Memorial Hospital about a half hour after the incident with a bullet wound to his right foot. After explaining the situation to police, they were able to apprehend the suspect a short time after.

Police found a handgun in his suspect’s possession as well as two shell casings at the scene. He is currently in custody and awaiting charges.

Court records also revealed that both men were recently released on bail after committing a pair of residential burglaries in Edgewater over the summer.

According to Chicago police, they responded to a burglary in progress call on Sept. 29 and arrested both 43-year-old Patrick Carter and 39-year-old Douglas Stokes as they attempted to break into a building on the 5400 block of N. Kenmore. That is when one of the officers recognized the men from surveillance video from a prior burglary at the same complex on August 5.
