Shooting Targets Those At Andersonville Vigil On Sunday

An Andersonville vigil on Sunday evening for a young man killed due to gun violence the night prior was met with another shooting as several mourned the loss.

Alderman Harry Osterman alerted the community to the situation which occurred Nov. 8 around 8 p.m. on the 1500 block of Gregory. A group of four men ranging in age from 17-20 years of age had gathered to mourn the loss of  Peirce Elementary graduate Daniel Zetina on the school’s field.

Authorities say soon after the vigil started shots were fired at the group by someone in a black SUV who was targeting one of those at the gathering.

There were no injuries reported and police are investigating. No one is in custody at this time.

Zetina, a 20-year-old Rogers Park resident, was killed on Saturday evening around 5:30 p.m. as he sat in a parked car on the 7400 block of N. Oakley. An unidentified suspect walked up to the car and shot him in the flank of the arm. Soon after being taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston he was pronounced dead.

If you have any information that could help police investigate either of the two incidents, please contact contact Area North Detectives at 312-744-8263 or email Alan Oviedo at the 48th Ward Office at.
