And more than keeping us posted, Edgewater/Andersonville residents should have plenty of input into the process and decisions since it is our community. In my book, CPS has screwed up enough by closing it in the first place .

The Uptown has been vacant for 30 years. They should save the lobby building and tear down the theatre and repurpose the land because they will never be able to generate sufficient money to bring that entire building back to life. At least we could save the most beautiful part which is the lobby. Old doesn’t always mean valuable.

That is what a lot of people were thinking. I know if they converted them to lofts, I would be very interested in purchasing. Steps to shops, Cheetah Gym and dining. Perfect location.

Loft style condos/apartments could go on the upper floors and in a new addition that could be built in the adjacent lot. They could have retail or offices on the first floor, and then restore the auditorium to either a live theater/comedy venue or even a small movie theater such as The New 400 Theater in Rogers Park.

There are a lot of possible creative and productive reuses for this wonderful building.

I am know there is strong community and local business support for landmarking and
saving Trumbull School from the wrecking ball. The more organizations and individuals who voice their concerns to both CPS and the Landmarks Commission, the better.
