Raven Theatre Plans For the Future With New Renovations

Raven Theatre ElevationRaven has been a mainstay in the Edgewater theater community for the past 15 years. Only in the last 18 months or so has it been under the leadership of Kelly Strickland as its executive director. Kelli is not new to the area or the community as she was on the faculty of Loyola University in their theater department for some time. She had also done work with Raven in the past so coming back as its executive was like coming home.

“This part of Edgewater is known for its car places,” Kelli said. “We wanted to make this corner a bright spot in the neighborhood.”

And so it was that the process of renovation came to Raven. The parking lot has been repaved. The exterior is undergoing a facelift. Signage has been or will soon be changed. Their logo soon will be updated. Stage lighting will be improved. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning will be updated. Although the work on the parking lot has been completed, it may take several more months for the balance of the improvements to be completed.

Inside the house, Kelli is pleased that the theater now has ten staff. Several of the performances from last season have been award winners or have been recommended.

The current performance, All My Sons which will run until November 15, is doing very well. Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Goose will run for its third year. After Christmas, Raven is eagerly anticipating the Chicago premier of Dividing the Estate.

Another innovation in recent seasons has been the inception of a touch tour offered for one performance per run. The touch tour for All My Sons took place earlier in October. Raven does not yet have an audio description component, but that will, they hope, be able to be offered soon.

So as you consider your theater options in the coming weeks and months, head north on Clark Street to see not only a wonderful performance but all of the improvements which have been done or are already in the works.
