Owner Of Edgewater’s Pressure Billiards To Open Second Pool Hall

After 11 years running Pressure Billiards at 6318 N. Clark in Edgewater, Owner Wahib Merchant will be opening his second pool hall in Albany Park around Thanksgiving.

The new business at 3241 W. Montrose will be called Surge Coffee Bar & Billiards and will replace the old Marie’s Golden Cue which closed in March. The new billiards joint will be much like Pressure offering an all day cafe and focusing on the bar at night.

Merchant has diversified his business through the years in order to attract a wider range of customers. Leaving the old-school pool hall mentality behind, he renovated Pressure Billiards in 2011 and added a full menu. But just like his Edgewater hall, the main attraction at Surge will be the 14 Brunswick Crown V pool tables which will fill the space.

The new 6000 sq ft Albany Park space has been gut-rehabbed with a new kitchen, televisions and a bar that sits around twenty. According to Chicago Eater, Surge will have a neighborhood bar vibe where people can socialize, drink, eat and play some pool. The menu will be similar to Pressure with all the typical sports-bar favorites such as wings and burgers.
