Opening Plans For Restaurant Taking Over Cantina 1910 Space, Expect Moderately Priced American Food And Full Bar

Owner Marc Wuenschel is looking forward to opening his third Chicago Hutch restaurant in Andersonville at 1477 W. Winnemac, taking over half of the old Cantina 1910 space. Hutch American Kitchen is promising to be a space that is a neighborhood-friendly eatery that is affordably priced.

Wuenschel ran into many of the typical challenges trying to open the restaurant including permits and inspections. Also, because the old Cantina 1910 space was divided into two properties, it took some time to initiate the new address with CDOT and the postal service. But according to him, they are ready to serve the area and hope to open their doors the week between Christmas and New Years.

The dinner menu will focus on American comfort staples including grilled steak, big salads and hand-held sandwiches served between 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. (From 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. kids eat free). Hutch will also offer both weekday and weekend brunches from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. which has proven successful at the other restaurants.

“The menu will be a lot smaller than the other locations,” Wuenschel said. “That is because we want to do things like feature a different fish everyday or a blue-plate special. We would like to be creating something new every week.”

Hutch American Kitchen will also offer a full bar that will feature an ‘aggressive’ happy hour for its customers from 2:30 – 5 p.m Monday-Saturday. They will have six local Chicago beers on draft and six special cocktails on draft as well.

The restaurant will also feature a quick service window on Winnemac where people on their way to work can grab a coffee, doughnuts, smoothies and egg hand-helds. The window will most likely be open 7 – 10 a.m. There are plans to offer late-night pizza at some point as well.

“Andersonville is a neighborhood I have been looking at for a couple years now,” Wuenschel added. “We think the brand fits the area, not only for the simplicity of the grilled American food but also for the price point we are at. It will be a great neighborhood restaurant – and that is how the Lakeveiw location found its success.”
