An art studio in Andersonville was damaged after a small explosion rattled the neighborhood early this morning. The blast blew off part of the facade of the building, setting off a fire on the property.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. and crews were sent out immediately to the building at 1506 W. Balmoral Ave. which houses the studio. The fire was extinguished about 30 minutes later.

According to fire officials, the explosion was set off by flammable products on the first floor of the 2-story building.

The Andersonville restaurant Hamburger Mary’s, which is next door to the art studio, said on their Facebook page, “Sad news this morning… our artist neighbor’s studio had an explosion which blew the front of the building off! Hamburger Mary’s is ok, and will be open for lunch as usual.”

There were no injuries reported.
