Andersonville Candyality Will Be Closing Its Doors After 5 Years

The pandemic has claimed yet another storefront as it continues to force local business owners to make very difficult decisions. This week Candyality announced they will be closing their doors for good this month after serving Andersonville for over five years.

The neighborhood sugar-fix store at 5225 N. Clark became a staple for Andersonville diners and shoppers. Providing a quick stop for one’s sweet tooth, Candyality offers fine chocolates, licorice, saltwater taffy, gummies, gourmet popcorn, and just about everything in between.

They company’s owners made the announcement two days ago on social media. They cited that the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted their business and the Andersonville location’s landlord would not work with them on rent. The 3737 N. Southport location however will remain open for business.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of our Andersonville location at the end of September,” said Candyality owner Terese McDonald . “We sincerely appreciate your support all of these years and making Candyality a part of your life.”

Decreased foot traffic and business limitations due to the health crisis have put an incredible strain on local stores, restaurants, and services over the last several months. In order to stay afloat, many brick and mortar storefronts have now ramped up their online efforts in hopes that customers will continue to spend money at their establishments.

Local businesses not only continue to sell their food, products and services online but also offer delivery options and curb-side pickup. As online delivery companies aid restaurants with food deliveries, Candyality also uses GrubHub, UberEats, and Postmates to bring goodies straight to your door. The store also offers their own local delivery for those having ‘candy emergencies.’

“We hope that you will consider a purchase during the upcoming Halloween and Holiday season,” McDonald added. “Any purchase makes a huge difference to a small business at this time and we want to encourage you to patronage not only Candyality but other small businesses as well.”
