Yesterday’s Storms Brought Havoc To Edgewater, See The Pics

Storms2Monday was officially the hottest day of the year with The National Weather Service saying that the heat index rose above 100 degrees in some areas. That heat fired up some nasty storms that engulfed the edgewater neighborhood. Around 12:30 p.m. the dark skies let loose with a large amount of rain and heavy winds. That intense weather brought trees down across the neighborhood smashing into houses and cars. There were isolated power and cable outages throughout the area and reports of transformers blowing.

Com Ed has restored most of those effected and thankfully there were no reports of injuries. Alderman Harry Osterman released a statement yesterday,”Earlier today, our community experienced a severe storm. Department of Forestry crews are currently in the 48th Ward working to remove fallen trees and large tree limbs. Commissioner Williams and I were on site this afternoon visiting impacted locations and surveying damage. Department of Forestry will first remove the very large trees and tree limbs blocking streets. Tomorrow and over the next few days, they will working to remove everything else. I want to thank the many neighbors who lent a hand today helping to move and clear debris. If you see easily moveable tree branches in the street in front of your home or business, please help out by moving the branches onto the parkway. All piles will be removed over the next few days by our Department of Streets and Sanitation crews. Power has been restored at the 48th Ward office. Please feel free to contact us with any areas of concern (including the exact address if possible) by calling 773-784-5277 or emailing Harry@48thward.org.”
