Two Sidewalk Robberies Near Loyola Since Friday

robberyThere were two sidewalk robberies over the weekend in the Edgewater area near the Loyola campus. It is unknown at this point if it was the same attacker but police are currently investigating both incidents.

The first happened on Friday about 10:55 a.m. on the usually quiet 6200 block of North Wayne. A woman was held at gunpoint and her purse snatched from her. The man fled the scene. We are awaiting additional details on this crime and will report once we hear more.

The second incident occurred at 12:45 a.m. this morning after a female Loyola student was walking home from the redline station at Sheridan Road and West Columbia . The man asked her for a dollar and when she opened her wallet he snatched it and emptied it of all its cash. The man is reported as being six feet tall, short black buzz cut and wearing  a white shirt/black pants. He was last seen fleeing toward the Loyola redline station.

It is urged that residents pay extra attention to their surroundings at all times of day and night. If you have any information on these events, please call the 48th ward office at 773-784-5277.

A loyal BUZZer has let us know on Facebook the the Wayne attacker was taken into custody and the gun recovered. However both the alderman’s office and police have not confirmed this.
