It’s a vicious circle alright Peg, it’s like watching the show ‘the Wire’ in real time, minus ‘the wire’ or any other seemingly committed professional police-work that actually enables breaking-up these gangs of killers. No political leader, no budget, constant moving of resources all belie the corruption that is going on within here. The city is most definitely accountable here (there’s not a lot they don’t know!), but as usual they are not over-involving themselves in this/our mud-pit, and are ‘allowing’ the collateral damage of a few innocents take precedent over taking out many gang-bangers as possible (even perhaps at the very real cost of police officers lives) It is to me this seeming mid-west conservative ‘let’s just try to keep a handle on this thing’ politics, over coming-out and declaring action saying ‘these killers have illegal gun’s lets go into their communities with warrants and end them if they fight against us, and put them away if they have said guns for a long time’, which we all know they do have as they continually tear through our community like knives through butter. Grrr!

Aldermanic input on gangs – from the RP’s Joe Moore? His stance in 2014 was to blame RP’s huge increase in shootings and fatalities on 1) Evanston gangs, and 2), Edgewater/Uptown gangs. He’s worse than useless.

The four plus ones cannot ever be viewed as examples of “mid century architecture” ! Unless, of course, you just want to live in your head and if you worship marketting. But they are, basically the only source of affordable housing in our community, besides Pines of Edgewater and even they are no longer really affordable. Many immigrants and people of color live in them, working hard just to stay in the neighborhood which is safer than most. Our Alderman is VERY PROACTIVE on public safety as well as providing resources and initiatives for all our residents. We all need, want and deserve to feel safe . To achieve it though, and make it last, perhaps we have to pay attention to making ours a more ‘just’city as well as good police work etc.

In addition, the Alderman’s office needs to continue working with apartment building owners to update the apartment buildings and enforce existing codes, especially in the “Four Plus One” buildings which, when updated nicely, can start becoming viewed more as mid-century architectural examples rather than boxes of architectural blight.

Because of the harshness of these notices, state laws limit their use to certain, well defined situations. These notices can, in most situations, only be sent if you have done several things. One of these:

-Been conducting illegal activities in the lease property, such as making or dealing drugs, or engaging in gang-related activity” (source: FindLaw)

Police (Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman) confirmed with both the Sun-Times and Tribune that they were victims of an apparent drive-by and the were standing on the 5900 block of Kenmore which Swift is located on:

I’m no detective, but it strikes me that Thorndale and Broadway is some kind of front in a larger gang war. I would be *shocked* find out that drug sales were involved. I really wish Mr. Osterman and the cops would put an end to this craziness…seems every couple of weeks there’s gunplay happening at that intersection. Hey, if there’s something I can do to help end the nonsense (short of deputization), I’m listening.

These shooting seem connected to me no? Saying that this is a ‘big city and crime happens’ just does not cut it any longer, CPD need to break these gangs up that surround Uptown/Edgewater/Andersonville/Roger Park. Aldermanic input is essential.
