It’s all about the orange. No, not the fruit or the juice. It’s about the orange Edgewater Survival Kit that you may find at your favorite restaurant or other establishment.

The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce will be passing out these survival kits at a number of local businesses. We don’t know where, but Marketing and Events Director Ally Brisbin says she hopes that these businesses will let the public know, through social media, that these kits are available. Then you, too, can let your friends and family know you got one of these prize possessions, which include an EdgeFest tote bag, a selfie stick, orange sunglasses and sunscreen.

Why all of these items, you ask? Well, they would work great at the fourth-annual EdgeFest to be held on Broadway between Ardmore and Thorndale Aug. 1-2.

“This is our biggest fundraiser,” Brisbin said. “We use it to support things like the Edgewater farmers market, family night out at the parking lot of the Broadway Armory and the Edgewater 5K run, which started just last year.”

EdgeFest boasts activities for people of all ages, with kids events from noon to 5 p.m. each of the days of the Fest.

Brisbin says the Chamber of Commerce recruits local vendors and businesses. “About 50 percent of businesses at the Fest are local,” she added. So perhaps you can find a local jewelry artisan, enjoy some locally brewed beer or sample the foods of a local restaurant that you have not yet tried.

New this year is an event for dogs known as Dock Dog. A pool and other equipment will be brought to the Fest so your favorite canine can test its skills.

There is a $5 donation to enter the Fest. In return for this donation, Brisbin says you will receive an EdgeCard giving you a 10 percent discount at many local businesses.

Look or ask for the orange when you shop or dine. Let your friends and family know where you found it since only the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce knows just exactly where those prized kits can be found. Then, make your way to the Fest and proudly display your sunglasses and tote bag.

The Chamber of Commerce website and weekly newsletter will provide more information soon as more vendors may be added in the days and weeks to come.
