Shiller not running, Mary Ann Smith "back and forth"

Neighboring Uptown’s 46th Ward Alderman Helen Shiller has announced that she will not seek re-election next year. According to this article in the Chicago Sun-Times, many Alderman may not run next year in fear of being ousted by a voter base upset with the current status of the city. When asked by the Chicago Sun-Times whether or not she will seek re-election, Edgewater/Andersonville Alderman Mary Ann Smith was quoted as saying: “I’m back-and-forth, back-and-forth … I’m really struggling with it, it’s been a lot of years. I’ve accomplished a lot of what I felt were the critical issues … But, I’ve got a couple of big projects pending.” Our gut feeling is that MAS will not run again, but this is simply just a guess. Harry Osterman is rumored to have an interest in the position, and he has raised over $97K in campaign funds versus Smith’s $19K according to Lake Effect News.
