Also just last Friday was jumped yet again at Winthrop & Balmoral, same mo, guys stop a car get out, drag me into the street pound my head into the pavement, pummel my face while screaming to his accomplice,’get his pockets’ fun times, I’m done with Edgewater!!!

With all due respect to my fellow Edgevillians, you need to STOP IT with this “blaming the victim” nonsense. You’re not doing anyone any favors with that mindset.

The fact is, there are a lot of creeps in this city, just like in every other big city, and they’re looking to prey on people who they think they can take advantage of. I don’t care if it’s Bryn Mawr, Michigan Avenue, or some suburban street. The rules at 2:00 AM are not the same as in the middle of the day when tons of people are around.

Criminals are looking for people who 1. are alone 2. look distracted and 3. look like they won’t put up a fight. In the wee hours, assume that ANY stranger who comes within ten feet of you asking you anything is up to something, and move away. That’s just Life In The Big City 101. Yes, it would be wonderful if we could travel unmolested at all hours, but that’s not going to happen. You need to protect yourself.

I don’t mean to blame the victim; I’m sympathetic to what happened. But yeah, me? I would not have stopped and given those guys directions. Honestly, it’s true. 99/100 times that kind of thing is a distraction or something unsavory.
