Rickover student makes American Idol Top 20

Rickover Naval Academy (5900 N Glenwood) senior Devin Velez has been a contestant on this season’s American Idol television show, and he has made it to the final round. After surviving the ‘Sudden Death Round’ in Las Vegas, Velez joins 19 other contestants in the Top 20 live show where America, not the judges, decide the contestants fate.
At Rickover, Devin headlines the Rickover Jazz Band, and also had the starring role (Charlie Brown) in the school’s first musical “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown!” You can watch his latest Idol performance from last week here on You Tube, where he performed his version of Beyonce’s “Listen.”
