By Jeremy Bressman

Edgewater’s first outdoor sculpture piece will be installed at the northeast corner of Granville and Broadway on July 16th.  The piece, “Soar”, is a metal sculpture by artist David Noguchi (http://www.davidnoguchi.com/).

To raise the money for the installation of “Soar,” a fundraising event will be held at the Pumping Company (6157 N Broadway) on July 11th from 5:30 – 7:30pm.  The fundraiser will be hosted by Alderman Osterman, the Edgewater Community Council and the Edgewater Development with a requested donation of $35.

Pass? I love public art, but that’s a dud.

Sorry – no….and that looks like the sculpture from Everybody Loves Raymond that Marie made….

The problem with any public art is that not everyone is going to like it, just like any other ‘art’. When I was in high school my art class was invited to the unveiling of the ‘Picasso’ at City Hall.  I was thrilled and I loved it when I saw it. But it was considered laughable by many ‘critics’ at the time. Oh well…. btw.. the correct link for David Noguchi is http://www.davidnoguchi.com/

Thanks Van, for pointing it out.  We’ve updated the link.

the sculpture is kind of lame but even worse is your use of a bogus weblink.

      The link has been corrected.

There must be a back story on why this artist and this sculpture are being considered, when so many seasoned and acclaimed public artists practice in Chicago, some of whom live in Edgewater or Andersonville.
A few years ago there was a sculpted bench at the current site of the Edgewater Farmers’ Market. I don’t know who the artist was, but it served a useful function as well as adding interest to the street scape.

How cool – not much outdoor art around Edgewater.  This will be a great start.

The link above does not direct to the correct website.  You need to add ‘David’ to the website it links to.
