No TIF for Dominick’s, Admiral on Hold, and more updates…

The Chicago Journal / News-Star recently wrote an article as a follow-up to the neighborhood meeting held on February 26th to discuss the proposed Dominick’s project at 5253 N Sheridan. While the prospect of a brand new “Lifestyle” concept store that will have environmentally-friendly LEED certification is great news, there are still some questions that need to be answered. Specifically, residents expressed concerns about car traffic, store management, handicap parking and also requested that a roof/cover be put on the rooftop parking. The Alderman’s office is also in talks with the CTA about moving the bus turnaround from Foster to Berwyn. Why they would bring more CTA traffic to Berwyn, a smaller side street, rather than keep it on a wider road such as Foster is a bit puzzling. Representatives from Dominick’s also made it very clear that they were not seeking TIF funds, and neighbors were informed that plans for the Admiral by the Lake retirement tower were put on hold until at least 2010.
