New Vietnamese Restaurant Opens in Edgewater

LVmenuLittle Vietnam,” a new restaurant offering “Authentic Vietnam Cuisine” opened in Edgewater today in the former “Just Turkey” space at 1132 W. Bryn Mawr Ave, just a few steps west of the Bryn Mawr CTA red line stop.  The restaurant celebrated their opening with a dancing dragon, which represents prosperity in Vietnamese culture.

We stopped there for a quick lunch and ordered the $5 crab rangoon and $7 large wonton soup appetizers.  The rangoons are huge and crispy with a light cream cheese and crabmeat filling, and the wontons in the soup were stuffed with a mixture of pork and shrimp, with a chicken broth.  Ricky, the manager, was very friendly and pulled up an extra chair from the back for us to sit on while waiting on our take-out, which was up really quickly despite every table in the space being filled.  The credit card machine was not up and running yet, but we were told that was a temporary situation and would be fixed soon.

LVCROther items on the menu range from $4-$15 and include spring rolls to braised catfish in a clay pot.  Vegetarian options are clearly marked, and most menu items are listed in their original Vietnamese with English descriptions. “Little Vietnam” also offers smoothies, Vietnamese coffee, and two types of Vietnamese desserts – a “slightly tart yogurt sweetened with condensed soup” and che ba mau, a three color dessert cup described as a “sweet colorful treat in a cup.”  According to a March 7th, 2014 facebook post, the restaurant sought community input before finalizing the menu.

We enjoyed our visit to “Little Vietnam,” especially due to Ricky’s service, and are looking forward to more meals with our new neighbors.
