Historic Somerset Place Signs Its First Retail Tenant, Alchemia
Bringing a mix of high-end and progressive menswear from designers across the globe, Notre — Andersonville’s latest destination for handpicked, highly-curated men’s fashion wear — opened its doors in the neighborhood’s ever-burgeoning shopping district on North Clark Street.
Located at 5202 N. Clark Street, the dark yet inviting shop features a relaxed and lush ambiance showcasing exclusive collections spanning men’s top clothing lines and footwear, upmarket accessories, apothecary products, as well as high-end bags and limited-edition home goods.
Notre is owned and operated by four men with more than 15 years of collective experience in the men’s fashion industry. Among the owners is noted men’s fashion buyer, Michael Jaworowski, who previously worked as a buyer for Haberdash, a popular men’s clothing store based in Chicago. The group’s interest in fine-crafted, upscale menswear and relationships with designers in the industry fueled the creation and mission behind the store, while their love of Andersonville’s up-and-coming shopping mecca and community spirit drove the shop to North Clark Street.
“We moved to Andersonville because we were so enamored with this area,” said Robert Wilce, one of Notre’s owners. “There is a phenomenon here, where you can go to Andersonville to shop and never have to travel downtown. […] When [Jaworowski] decided he wanted to open the store, there was no other choice but here.”
Boasting brands from around the world, Notre’s mission is to harness an exclusive collection of hard-to-find lines, introduce them to its customers and ultimately entice shoppers across Chicago to visit the area and the store.
“We want to bring a brand to Andersonville,” said Wilce. “Between the four of us, we have such a great eye and overall knowledge of what is out there already and what our customers want. Jaworowski has developed such great relationships with designers in the industry that we’ve been able to bring in some lines that aren’t usually presented.”
With a big, comfy couch and a low-key atmosphere, Notre hopes to develop relationships with its customers, becoming a destination shop where consumers can learn about new offerings, explore the merchandise and hang out.
“If you’re going to brave the 10-degree weather, we want you to hang. We’d like to sit down with our customers and tell them about the store and the brands we offer,” said Wilce. “That’s why we designed the space the way we did.”
Notre keeps the atmosphere comfortable and customers at ease with an aura that Jaworowski said “feels more like a living room than it does a rack-by-rack retail space.” With the help of neighboring stores, including Scout, Square Nail and Brimfield, much of Notre’s structure, furnishings and décor were conceptualized and sourced through collaborations right here in Andersonville.
Meaning “our” in French to represent the relationship between the store’s owners, Notre was created, built and populated through community, fashion and design collaborations both at home and around the world. With its opening event attracting upwards of 200 people, the store was welcomed warmly to the neighborhood and has big plans to become an Andersonville staple itself.
Notre is open Monday – Friday from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The store is offering 1/3 off all items Nov. 26 – Dec. 1 in honor of Black Friday. If you have any questions, you can email info@notre-shop.com.
