Mugging on Catalpa

We received the following information from the Lakewood Balmoral Residents Council. A troubling story considered this occured in broad daylight – we’re thankful the victim only suffered minor injuries and wish her a speedy recovery:
“A 27 year old young woman was mugged on Catalpa between Magnolia and Lakewood around 3 p.m. Saturday. She was walking west on Catalpa and a black man got out of an older white Trans Am, crossed the street to follow her, then grabbed her purse and ran. The man in the waiting car pointed a gun at the girl. The man who grabbed the purse hit the girl in the head with some type of weapon. The girl was screaming as she chased the man. A neighbor heard her and immediately ran outside to help. The man jumped in the car and drove away, pointing the gun at another responder standing across the street. Neighbors provided ice and towels to stop the bleeding. Police and ambulance were called and she was taken to the emergency room with what appeared to be minor wounds. I think some of the neighbors got a partial license plate number.”
