Midsommarfest Raises $15,000 For The Water Tower

swedishIt was a very good day for not only our friends at the Swedish American Museum, but for the entire Andersonville neighborhood as they announced that the ultimate goal of $15,000 was reached at this year’s Midsommarfest.

In a Facebook statement, the Museum said, “Thank you to all who came to Midsommarfest and made a gate donation and thank you to the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce for supporting our efforts to restore a great neighborhood landmark, the Andersonville Water Tower.”

The current amount raised towards the Water Tower Fund stands at $52,000 (including the $15,000 form the fest), just over a third of the way to the final goal of $150,000. The exact amount of putting the tower back upon its lofty perch is still being estimated, but the fact that the community has come together on this so fast is testament to the cause.

EVB talk with Karin Moen Abercrombie, Executive Director of the museum and she admitted she knew it would happen, “We spoke with the organizers of the event and the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce before the (Midsommarfest) event and we anticipated that the amount should be able to be raised through the course of that weekend.” She added, “However, it doesn’t really hit you until you get the final news, and it is a very happy day here today.”

The museum does stress that they still need help from the neighborhood and beyond. This Friday is their annual Give To The Museum Day in hopes to raise an additional $15,000 to support their operations year ’round. Please give, as Andersonville’s history is ever important. Go to:
