Man loses fight against death penalty

Peter Mah, the owner of Andersonville’s Jin Ju restaurant, appears to have lost his plea against the death penalty for the man who murdered his father. Mah and his family submitted an affidavit outlining their opposition to the death penalty for Johnnie Baston, who was convicted of murdering Peter Mah’s father over ten years ago. The Mah family preferred that Baston serve life in prison without parole, stating that an execution is “never going to repair anything that’s already been done.” The parole board, however, ruled that Mr. Baston’s lack of accepting responsibility, criminal history and the severity of the execution-style killling of Mr. Chong Mah outweigh their personal opinions regarding the death penalty.
