Local Kids Raise Money for Sandy Victims

A group of 4 local siblings and cousins have taken on the task of raising money for Hurricane Sandy victims, one small donation at a time. With milk jugs in hand these young do-gooders hit the streets of Andersonville and began their own campaign called “Candy for Sandy.” Any donation, big or small, received a piece of candy in return. Andersonville residents and visitors on the street proved to be very generous, and people pitched donations from handful of change to twenty dollar bills totaling over $600 in the first day alone.

“It excited me to do this project because if it was my city that was devastated, I would want somebody to help.” Taylor, 10 years old, told the Edgeville Buzz. “I would want to know somebody cared and I was not forgotten. It didn’t seem right not to try to do something to help.”

The group was on the streets Saturday and Sunday afternoons, as well as Monday evening, and raised over $900 from their efforts.
