Reality says Loyola is not doing such a great job.

I always earnestly street view Englewood hoping Edgewater can have more blighted space where once stood historic buildings.

I have reaped many benefits because Loyola is my neighbor. Kudos to Loyola. (and we didn’t even mention how safe the neighborhood is because of Loyola security. and now I have a better street (Kenmore) to walk my dog :-)

The TIF was used for what is was intended – to spur community development, improve neighborhood lifestyle and increase tax rolls. The assumption the TIF was a net giveaway of tax dollars is simple not true.

How much they spend on security and the amount of crime costs on their campus and at the fringes compared to other commercial areas such as Morse and Thorndale. How much in aggregate salaries and associated income taxes would also be good to know. Does the university also fund erosion control efforts along the lake? They seem like a pretty good neighbor to me.

In other words…how much have local taxpayers paid to support Loyola’s tax-free expansion?
