If you’re like myself, you’ve likely sipped on Metropolis Coffee Company’s coffee numerous times even if you’ve never stepped foot into their Edgewater cafe on Granville.  The popular brew is roasted in a warehouse in Andersonville, and served up in numerous restaurants across the city.

The Metropolis Coffee Company cafe (1039 W Granville), however, is worth a visit itself.  The place is everything that the big corporate coffee shops are not – a vibrant atmosphere featuring local artists’ work on the walls, friendly quirky staff that will go the extra mile to assist you, and patrons that resemble our diverse neighborhood.  During my visit I found myself in company with Loyola students, business people, seniors and parents with children.  There was just enough buzz in the air to make it a great social setting, but not too loud that you can’t hunker down in front of a book or laptop and get some work or studying done.

The coffee is delish, and they also offer a handful of food items for belly from breakfast foods to wraps to pastries.  Personally I tried a breakfast sandwich of eggs, cheddar and ham on a toasted english muffin.  The eggs were fluffy and generously peeking out of each side of the bread trying to contain them, and the simple sandwich left me satisfied.

I definitely recommend stopping by Metropolis Coffee Company the next time you need your java fix, as they are a model of the type of small local businesses that make our neighborhood great.
