Get a Flu Vaccine, Get 10% off groceries

Don’t Let Flu Knock You Out of Fall Fun

Oak Brook, Ill. – No one wants to be stuck at home in bed miserable with the flu and miss out on a costume party or the chance to take your kids trick-or-treating. It takes between two and three weeks to build immunity after receiving the vaccine, so with Halloween and the busy holiday travel season coming up, now is the time to be immunized.

Even those who already received the H1N1 vaccine still need to get this year’s seasonal flu vaccine. The seasonal vaccine is different than the specialized H1N1 vaccine because it protects against three different types of viruses: H1N1, influenza B and H3N2.

Dominick’s makes it easy to protect against this year’s strain of influenza by offering flu vaccinations at all its in-store pharmacies. No appointment is necessary and all Dominick’s pharmacists are certified immunizers. Illinois pharmacy regulations require that you be at least 14 and older to be immunized at a pharmacy.

Dominick’s makes flu vaccination convenient and affordable, with the added incentive of a 10 percent discount on grocery purchases to everyone who is vaccinated at a Dominick’s pharmacy.

“There is no reason for anyone to go unprotected this flu season and be forced to miss any of the upcoming holiday celebrations,” said Stephen Scalzo, R.PH., Dominick’s Director of Pharmacy.

“In today’s era of high-speed travel on crowded airplanes, buses and trains, exposure to individuals who are infected with the influenza virus can happen at any time,” Scalzo said. “Everyone should take precautions against the flu by being vaccinated.”

In addition to receiving the flu shot, Scalzo stressed that there are simple, common-sense actions people can take to limit the spread of germs this flu season:

Wash hands frequently

Sneeze/cough directly into sleeve or tissue

Dispose of tissues after use

Use antibacterial wipes

Avoid touching the face

Also available at Dominick’s is Flozene High-Dose, which has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for adults over age 65. It affords the same protection as the regular vaccine, but becomes effective quicker (7-10 days). Adults above the age of 65 comprise just 15 percent of the U.S. population, but account for 65 percent of flu-related hospitalizations and 90 percent of flu-related deaths.

Information about stores offering the flu vaccine can be found on the Dominick’s website or by contacting a Dominick’s pharmacy. Medicare Part B participants receive the flu shots for free.
