Jimmy Carter Visits Andersonville

Former President Jimmy Carter will be coming to Andersonville for a book signing on his latest work “A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, and Power” Thursday, March 27, 6 to 8 p.m.  Organized through Women and Children First Bookstore and being held at the Swedish American Museum, the event validates that the Andersonville/Edgewater area is one at the forefront of social and community progressiveness and change.

President Carter is a leading world figure that actively speaks out for those without voices and the need for social change. He was the 39th President of the United States (1977–1981) and was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, the only U.S. President to have received the Prize after leaving office. In 1982, he established The Carter Center in Atlanta to advance human rights and alleviate human suffering. The non-profit, nongovernmental Center promotes democracy, mediates and prevents conflicts, and monitors the electoral process in support of free and fair elections.

Women and Children First store owners, Linda Bubon and Ann Christophersen, are very proud to have this human rights icon coming to Andersonville. They explain, ” Our neighborhood has always been politically progressive, one that has a very welcoming attitude and demonstrates its desire for social change. ”

Ann and Linda are inspired by Jimmy Carter’s passion for finding reconciliation in peaceful ways and not being afraid to take on controversial issues especially when it comes to human rights. They go on to say, ” This book , among many things, confronts violence against women, and this is why we (Women and Children First Bookstore) are here.”

Tickets to the book signing event are required. The purchase of A Call to Action from Women & Children First comes with a free ticket to the book signing. The book publishes on March 25th; the price including tax is $30.60. Call 773-769-9299 or go to www.womenandchildrenfirst.com for more information or to pre-order a book and secure your ticket.
