I don’t like to make too many comments because I don’t want to take the chance that the company is reading them.. But the “In The Hood” title of the article just miffed me off…lol.. but I do agree that the style and furnishings on some the buildings is pretty impressive.

“Doing Big Things In The Hood”.. Edgewater is NOT THE HOOD!. I am in one of the buildings that they bought and they are not working with housing organizations to keep the GOOD tenants there. I am one of the GOOD tenants and due to politics between the owners and my housing organization from past buildings bought, I am the one that is getting no voice in the matter.

Actually I think the fence is pretty cool and modern. I have seen the finishes and they are nice, much better than any rentals I have been at previous to owning. Actually, before FLATS took over the property it was being developed by a company that went bankrupt during the housing crisis and sat vacant for 3 years. Flats has had it for the past 2 years and did take some time getting it done but I am very pleased to see the results on this building in particular. I do not see any major signs of deterioration, but it was a difficult winter and most building had some issues. Thanks for your alternative view.

“The building in the 5400 block of Winthrop was a vacant eyesore for a very long time.” … because FLATS owned it and let it sit vacant while it played it’s finance game, collecting buildings and then mothballing them until they were able to raise capital to perform their half-ass renovations. The fence in front of the Winthrop building is an eyesore, the exterior is already visibly deteriorating, and the interiors finishes are low-end (reminds one of a Star Jones episode where she shows you how to “get the fashionable look you want while shopping at Payless and Target”.

Why on earth does he paint his buildings BLACK! How depressing is that? XL Properties which is just north of his BLACK building was redone a few years and looks WONDERFUL compared to his BLACK box.

All of this is well and good, but there’s a huge issue with affordability in our neighborhood now. It’s absurd how high the rents are, so people who have lived her for years are being pushed to more affordable neighborhoods that are less safe. People who can afford it move in, displace the people who make this neighborhood one of unique character, and it becomes a cookie cutter neighborhood. There needs to be a law about raising rents so high!

The building at the 5400 block of winthrop was a vacant eyesore for a very long time. His vision really seemed to work well with this building in particular. It looks great and the residents seem really happy with their surroundings.
