FIRE SALE! Chicago Filmmakers Get Great News.

FIRE SALE! Chicago Filmmakers Get Great News.

Vacant since 2003 when the firefighters moved out, the old firehouse at 5714 North Ridge has some incredible promise if a City plan is approved. Picked from many arts and community groups who were interested in the sale of the building, it was Chicago Filmmakers who got the good news. Chicago Filmmakers has spent almost 2 decades on the second floor of 5243 North Clark in Andersonville and if the plan is finalized they will receive a much needed workspace facelift. The filmmakers’ proposed plan would include a 99 seat screening room (where they housed the trucks), a second floor office/classroom space and a converted basement for storage. Included in the plan are a concession stand, bathrooms, elevator and 15 parking spaces all of which will be sold to them for $36,000 (10% building value). The Filmmakers plan to spend $600,000 in renovations that would begin immediately upon sale and last for up to a year.
It’s terrific news for the area. Local politicians and community leaders are praising the plan that will allow an accomplished and deserving group, Chicago Filmmakers, to grow and thrive. It will also secure the survival of a beautiful Chicago building, which has been here since 1928, a new updated lease on life.
