Fiery Car Crash On Sheridan Road At Loyola Kills One

Sarah Jindra, WGN-TV

A horrific single-car crash over the weekend sent a vehicle airborne off Sheridan Road at the Loyola curve, hitting a brick wall and leaving it to rest on the University lawn. The sole occupant in the car died from his injuries.

Police responded to the scene on the 6300 block of N. Sheridan around 3 a.m. Monday morning. There they found a heavily damagedĀ 2006 Toyota which was on fire. The driver of the vehicle, a man around 40 years of age, died at the scene.

The vehicle was heading Northbound on Sheridan at a very high rate of speed when it hit the curb at the Loyola curve. It was propelled through the air and eventually hit the Loyola University Chicago sign with such force that it demolished a part of the concrete wall.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released and the crash is still under investigation. Sheridan Road remained closed until about 9.am. this morning causing buses to be temporarily rerouted and creating heavy traffic. Normal traffic has since resumed.
