Explosion at Edgewater Medical Center – 2 hurt

Chicago – Two children playing on the roof of the vacant Edgewater Medical Center were hospitalized with trauma Friday night after an apparent electrical transformer explosion, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

The electrical fire happened about 8:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of North Ashland Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.

One child was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital and the other to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Langford said. Both suffered trauma from the electrical blast.

Emergency personnel remained on the scene at 9:45 p.m.
