It’s a disgrace to Chicagoland’s Scandinavian community.

People love to shop at places reflective of their ethnic backgrounds, and Scandinavians are certainly no exception. I’d suggest going west to the North Park U ‘hood, and visiting the Sweden Shop on W. Foster, should you want to see where the action is. Also, for Swedish food specialties, like brown beans, potato sausage, and Wikstrom’s pickled herring, Paulina Market, the very upscale butcher shop on Lincoln Ave., is a great source.

I checked the city website and it doesn’t appear that they have had a new inspection. Very interesting…

And sorry, but anyone who doesn’t wash their hands after going to the bathroom has no business working with the public, let alone with food. I don’t even pull that when I’m at home alone – it’s disgusting and completely unsanitary. This has less to do with money than it does with just being dirty.

Additionally, many area businesses cater to a particular ethnicity – Pars Persian Store is a great example, it’s located on the same block, and is thriving. We also have strictly Lebanese and Mediterranean restaurants in the neighborhood, as well as the Swedish Museum and all of those places are doing just fine.

I think this family is just sidetracked with other life events and stopped taking care of the place. While that’s understandable on their end, it’s understandable on ours that we don’t want to buy food where rats take dumps, where food is stored at temps that can cause life threatening illnesses and where people wipe their nether regions and then don’t wash their hands.

These violations are not a joke; they could KILL people.

There are very, very few people of Swedish descent left in Andersonville. Erickson’s range of products is very small and targeted at a cliental that does not exist any more. Andersonville is not a Swedish enclave in 2014. Because of that, Erickson’s owners can’t afford the type of maintenance necessary to meet today’s sanitation standards. I doubt that they have a future in our changed neighborhood. The Swedish nature of Andersonville is history. Sad for them but it is the reality of cities. They change.

If they had no water then that means they didn’t wash their hands after going to the bathroom. That is just really gross. They were also forced to throw all of their food out of their cooler because the temperatures were so high. The entire store is a mess with debris and empty boxes and rat droppings everywhere. Ive felt sort of bad for the owners before but this is unacceptable. Do they think that we’re too stupid to find out that they were cited for food handling violations?!? For the sake of the neighborhood I hope they are never allowed to open the store again. Good riddance.

Clearly, these are lies. They also had NO hot/cold running water on the premises. Disgusting. Check the city website for the real facts. It is time for them to close before they kill someone.
