Edgewater Whole Foods Partners With Local Store Audio Archaeology

audio archaeologyTonight, when you peruse the wines, desserts, fresh produce and more at Whole Foods in Edgewater, you’ll have a chance to purchase some new and used LP records, too, as part of the store’s new partnership with Audio Archaeology.

“Whole Foods moving into Edgewater was such an exciting event for so many of us in the area,” John Arnsdorff said on Monday. “As their opening day approached, the store had planned events to help increase the neighborhood buzz about their new location. We’ve partnered with several Edgewater small businesses in the past for events, but this seemed a great opportunity to work with a large volume retailer targeting a young, hip and educated consumer.”

Arnsdorff is the owner of Audio Archaeology. The 1324 W. Devon Ave. store also refurbishes and repurposes console stereos and has a large selection of vintage audio equipment.

Tonight’s event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Arnsdorff will be spinning vinyl and setting up records for shoppers to thumb through and buy near one of Whole Foods’ dining areas.

During a previous event at Whole Foods earlier this month, Arnsdorff set up two large tables and featured three record players (two vintage and one Record Store Day Crosley Cruiser) and roughly 100 records. This represented a sampling of what he has at the store.

“I played music and visited with customers while they browsed through our vinyl and chatted about music,” he said. “Based on the interest, I’m planning on taking more vinyl this time, both new and vintage.”

The partnership seems likely to continue, too. Arnsdorff said he has discussed having another event in July with Melissa Franada, Whole Foods’ marketer. He said he’d also love to plan something for the Loyola University Lake Shore Campus move-in weekend.
