Edgewater Chamber State of Edgewater breakfast
The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce held a State of Edgewater breakfast last week on Friday morning featuring an All-Star lineup of local politicians at Loyola University. The event proved to be a great opportunity for local business owners and residents to mingle and network together under one roof, while the politicians briefed the crowd with updates and a self-proclaimed love fest for each other.
In attendance were U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, State Senator Heather Steans, State Rep. Kelly Cassidy, 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman, and 40th Ward Alderman Patrick O’Connor. Each provided an update of what they were working on – from immigration reform to the farm bill to the new library opening to the lack of progress in Illinois state politics and a potential Metra station at Peterson. The love-fest comment came from the repeated praise each politician gave each other and their ability to work well together.
All in all, for anyone who keeps up to date with local happenings there was no ground-breaking news from the politicians, nor did any of the audience members ask questions, but the Chamber should be commended for assembling politicians from all levels in what many hope will be an annual event.
