Edgewater Businesses Put On Alert After String Of Area Robberies

Businesses in the 2oth District (which includes Edgewater and Andersonville) have been alerted by Chicago police that a string of burglaries have hit the area.

According to the Bureau of Detectives – Area North, the incidents occurred after an unknown offender(s) forcibly entered the establishments through a door or window, and removed property from them.

One of the burglaries occurred in Edgewater on the 5400 block of N. Broadway on January 28 between 2 a.m. and 2:55 a.m. The suspect(s) also hit two other businesses- one on the 1600 block of W. Lawrence on January 23 between 4 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. and another on the 5700 block of N. Western on January 31 between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Police recommend that area businesses be aware of this crime and alert nearby store owners. They ask that they pay special attention to any suspicious people loitering in the area and have a working security/surveillance system.
