Edge Card Promotes Shopping Locally With Area Discounts

1137Edgewater Chamber of commerce will unveil the new 2014-2015 Edge Card at this year’s EdgeFest, The card is described by the Chamber as, “a community discount card to encourage residents to shop locally and support local businesses.”

The concept of buying local has been a hot topic lately as many area small businesses have been hit hard by a tough winter coupled with the usual corporate competition. Chamber’s across the city have responded with many different programs and incentives in order to help make up for the tough start to the year.

The Edgewater Chamber announced that the card will be given to everyone who pays a $5 donation at the 2014 EdgeFest (It is free for current Chamber members). The 2013-2014 program allowed businesses to choose the savings the card holder would receive, but that has changed. Moving forward, the new EdgeCard will give the holder a one-time 10% savings at any venue that participates. Once the customer has received the maximum ten punches on the card from the participating businesses, they can send in the card to the Chamber to be entered into chances to win prizes throughout the year.

The list of participating businesses from the 2013-2014 program was impressive with discounts to  Lickety Split, Cheetah Gym, Independent Spirits, True Nature Foods, Raven Theatre, Steep Theatre and Bark-Bark Club (to name just a few). The Chamber is still accepting applications for companies that would also like to take part. Call the Edgewater Chamber at (773) 561-6000 with any questions. The deadline to ensure your business is listed in printed material is Friday, July 25.
