Ebenezer Lutheran celebrates 120 years
This weekend Ebenezer Lutheran Church (1650 W Foster) celebrates 120 years of serving the Andersonville/Edgewater community. Organized as a congregation of the Augustana Lutheran Synod on January 20, 1892 by the Swedish immigrants of Andersonville, Ebenezer Lutheran quickly became a center of religion, culture, and family activity. The present sanctuary was completed in 1908 and the additions were added in 1929.
In recognition of the anniversary the church has a weekend of celebratory events lined up, begining Saturday with an Anniversary Dinner. The dinner will be hosted Saturday, September 22, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ebenezer Community House. The evening consists of a catered dinner buffet, a collection of stories gathered from the past and present ministries of the congregation, and musical interludes. Guests are asked to bring something to share for the dessert buffet. On Sunday, the congregation begins the day at 9 a.m., with a Prayer Pilgrimage to visit and pray at the various sites in Andersonville where the congregation has worshipped during the last 120 years. The festival liturgy and rededication of the church sanctuary begins at 10:30 a.m. The Congregation recalls the completion of the sanctuary construction and initial decoration 100 years ago, and we rededicate our spiritual home for the future of our ministry. A reception follows immediately afterward.
Ebenezer Lutheran is served by pastor Michael Fick, who was called to serve in 2011. For more info about the church or this weekend’s events, visit http://ebenezerchurch.org.
