The driver of the vehicle involved in a deadly Lake Shore Drive crash on September 3 has been charged with ‘reckless homicide’ after a passenger was killed in the incident. A judge on Sunday set bail at $350,000.

Christopher L. Peacock, 33 of the 300 block of N. True Street in Griffith, Indiana, was driving the 2000 Chevrolet Colorado pickup on Lake Shore Drive headed to a Lenny Kravitz concert at Ravinia. Around 7:25 p.m. the vehicle hit the wall at a high rate of speed at the bend of the drive near Kathy Osterman beach in Edgewater . The pickup flipped over and flew about 200 feet coming to rest on its hood.

A passenger in the vehicle, Jillian A. Tsirtsis of the 12000 block of Connecticut St. in Crown Point, Indiana was thrown from the pickup and died at the scene. Peacock survived the accident and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with head injuries.

According to court papers, witnesses said the vehicle was traveling 80-100 mph on the 40 mph section of Lake Shore Drive before it hit the wall. It was also documented in a police report that at the hospital, Peacock had tested positive for opiates at the time of the accident.
