Comments on: Does anyone know the architectural significance of this residential building?

I didn’t know who built this beautiful old apt complex, but I’ve always loved it and gone out of my way to walk by it. If you notice, it’s not the conventional early 20th century courtyard building, but a “suburban” type apartment complex, one of the very first, of small buildingswith 4-6 units clustered together on a multi-acre site. I’d love to see this complex restored- these are extremely beautiful old buildings.

I think the British Consulate was the similarly styled building on Bryn Mawr/Winthrop or Bryn Mawr/Kenmore (can’t remember which corner). That one has a crest over the door.

It is my understanding that at one point it used to house a British consulate before being converted to homes. I have been inside, and they are big and beautiful places.

I have stayed here in the 1st floor apt on the south west corner of the building when our Wicker Park garden unit flooded.

just an fyi about JEO Pridmore…. he also designed the Vic Theater and the Peoples Church on Lawrence just east of Sheridan Road…

English Tudor, on the National Register of Historic Places, Lifelong Edgewater resident? All I know is that they are pretty great looking buildings beyond that. Too bad they were chopped up:(
