I’ve seen a For Sale sign on the space.

DMK and Fish Bar are restaurants with incidental liquor sales. Anyone who’s been there knows that the tables are absolutely situated for table food service. The MK Group is known for their food, not their bars.

I think we all know what a chain restaurant is: a cookie cutter, copycat, corporate restaurant with 10+ units in different locales, all with the exact same menu, interior design, and standard operating procedures. A restaurant group is exactly what it sounds like – a group of restaurateurs that operate different restaurant concepts. One Off Hospitality (ie Paul Kahan’s group) sums it up pretty well: “ONE OFF implies that each project is unique, and is operated with a spirit of complete and utter creativity. It suggests that each project might be our last; which is why each project we do is handled with the utmost attention to detail and character.ONE OFF is the opposite of big branding, knock ‘em out and spread ‘em out entrepreneurship.”

To rule out all future restaurants/businesses just because of a location’s past seems rather short-sighted…not sure the last time you ventured down from Detroit but Kingfisher’s previous owner did a very nice job gut-rehabbing the space. I would welcome any dining establishments in that location, especially considering it’s on the northern side of the neighborhood where other options are slim.

It’s hard to argue that this isn’t Andersonville considering the “Welcome to Andersonville” sign is practically at its front door (right across from Gesthemane). But to each their own I guess.

Now, THAT was a good place to eat and drink and have a good time with friends. What a mistake they made by changing. UGH! Nothing like ruining a good thing!

I hope, but doubt, that this will not be yet another bar expansion in the neighborhood. We don’t need Andersonville to become another Wrigleyville.

I wouldn’t even think of eating anything in that place – ever – unless it was torn down and rebuilt. But since it’s a “chain” now, maybe there will be some law and order or……standards. Hopefully. And meanwhile, yelp reviewers are suggesting Acre customers “walk a few blocks north to White Castle”.

Ada Street has quickly become a favorite restaurant of mine. Perfectly prepared small plates and skillfully made cocktails all served with a friendly, casual warmth and no pretense. Only been to DMK Burger Bar once, but I did enjoy that too.

So is the DMK Restaurant Group a “chain” or just a “group”? Or is there a difference?
