Dalai Lama visits Loyola tomorrow

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso will visit Loyola University tomorrow to speak at multiple functions.

First, he will speak at a Public Talk on the topic of non-violence at Loyola’s Gentile Arena.  About 4,000 tickets ranging from $20 to $120 were made available for purchase for this event, which is open to the public.  The event is hosted by, and ticket proceeds will benefit the TIBETcenter, a not-for-profit Tibetan art and culture organization.  Ticket holders will be ushed into the event around 8AM, and can expect tight security measures.  Attendees will enjoy sacred chants and musical performances before the Dalai Lama’s appearance at 9:30AM.  The Dalai Lama’s talk will be preceded by a segment highlighting three winners of a high school essay contest, wherein students will read their essays to His Holiness and the audience.

The afternoon event, held exclusively for members of the Loyola community, will also be held at Gentile Arena from 1:30PM - 3PM.  The Dalai Lama will be awarded an honorary Loyola degree and will address the Loyola community on the topic of interfaith collaboration.  Tickets for the afternoon event sold out to students in less than 24 hours.

Due to heightened security measures from the secret service, and increased amounts of traffic from visitors and dignitaries, the university is ecouraging public transportation.  In addition, the 1100 block of Loyola will be closed to traffic.
